With inclement weather expected to continue for another two days, poultry farmers received guidance to avoid stocking raw materials or finished feeds outdoors, as exposure would cause moisture absorption and result in aflatoxin formation.

01

Forecast

A press release from the Agromet Field Unit indicated overcast skies with potential rainfall. Temperature forecasts showed highs of 30°C (86°F) and lows of 25°C (77°F). Wind conditions were predicted at 4–14 km/hour from the south.

Overall atmospheric conditions were deemed favourable for poultry operations, supporting adequate feed consumption, egg production, and animal growth.

02

Why Aflatoxin Is the Concern

Aflatoxins are toxic by-products of Aspergillus moulds that thrive in damp, warm feed. Open-air storage during rains leads to moisture absorption → mould growth → aflatoxin production, hurting bird health and feed efficiency.
