Poultry Exports Double in H1FY26
UAE has overtaken Oman as the largest buyer of Indian eggs, helping India's poultry exports more than double to about $149 million (Rs 1,288.63 crore) in H1FY26 — up from $71.16 million a year earlier. Supply shortages in Turkey and Iran have lifted demand for Indian eggs, with national production reaching 142.77 billion eggs in 2023-24.

Poultry Sector to See 4–6% Revenue Growth This Fiscal
Per Crisil Ratings, the sector should see 4–6% revenue growth this fiscal — broiler volumes up 6–8% to 5.86 lakh tonnes and layer revenue up 7–9% — though operating margins may slip 80–100 basis points on softer first-half broiler prices. India's per-capita egg consumption is still just 102, against a global average of 218.

Agriculture Status to Poultry
The Central Government is pursuing agricultural status for poultry, fisheries and animal husbandry — sectors that employ millions, including many women workers. The Maharashtra model points the way with agricultural electricity tariffs, tax relief, solar subsidies and a 4% interest subsidy on livestock loans, covering layer farms of up to 50,000-bird capacity.

Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV)
IBV attacks the layer's reproductive system — damaging oviduct epithelial cells to cause up to a 70% drop in egg production in the acute phase. In young birds the oviduct damage can be irreversible, creating "false layers," and while flocks may recover in 6–8 weeks, permanent loss can also occur — a critical concern for layer operations.
