Demand Lifts Prices in Early September
Final consumer demand for chicken meat increased in early September, a movement already expected due to the payment of workers’ wages, according to Cepea. The September 7 national holiday also boosted consumer demand, and as a result, chicken meat prices rose in many regions surveyed by Cepea.
Exports Ease from July
In August, Brazil’s export sector shipped 492.6 thousand tons of chicken meat, including in natura and processed products, down 5.1% from July but 24.8% above the volume recorded in the same period last year, when exports were under embargo due to a bird flu case in Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul, according to data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex).
Shipments Expected to Pick Up
Cepea noted that declines in chicken meat shipments are relatively common at this time of year, but exports tend to accelerate again in the final quarter, when international demand usually picks up.
